The United States does not have a good mass transportation system, so Americans are compelled to drive cars instead. Whatever one wants to blame it on, greed, speculation or merely supply and demand, gas prices are sky-high. Information on means to save on gas would thus be welcome right now. Before you know it, you’ll have saved quite a lot of money, with a bit from here and a bit from there.
Vehicles that use fuel efficiently, for example sedans, or hybrids, if you can spend a bit more, are one obvious way to reduce fuel expenses. There are a few simple ways you can save money, however, including more often than not keeping your speed down and not picking up speed quickly, that will apply to all vehicles, and particularly to older, thirstier ones. Learn to use the momentum of the car to keep it going forward, with your foot off the gas pedal, whenever it’s appropriate, to save on gas. You can prevent having to fill up for longer by using a couple of the many ways to save on gasoline.
The same grade of fuel is not specific for all autos, or even for all places, so make sure to stick to what’s set for yours. If your auto is designed to benefit from running on premium oil, then that’s what you have to fill up with, but other than that you’re throwing money away. Two things that will help you save a good deal gas are slower driving and taking out, or away, needless weight from a vehicle. Not a lot people realize the effect of driving fast on fuel consumption; suffice to say it’s a fact that it climbs up dramatically. Besides the increased risk posed by high speed driving, decelerating will keep money in your purse.
Getting rid of the roof racks from your vehicle will improve your gas consumption, so take it off if you’re not really using it. Roof racks cause higher drag on your car, which, together with the weight they add, affects fuel efficiency. Have a look in your car’s trunk and remove any weight that’s not necessary, no matter how small you think the difference it may make. Since gas prices are not likely to come down much, your only options seem to be are to find alternative sources, cutting down how much you use, or just live with the price increases without doing anything. Most people seem to be content with doing everything the way they always have, pay the higher gas prices, and maybe complain a little.
A lot of people are starting to buy more fuel-efficient vehicles, but that’s about it. Others who can’t afford the other two options, are the ones most likely to do whatever they can to conserve fuel. Maybe one of these days, with enough education, everyone will decide that conserving fuel is a good idea. If every person would just slow down when driving, the roads would be safer, cleaner, and money would be saved.

The United States does not have a good mass transportation system, so Americans are compelled to drive cars instead. Oil prices are spiking, for a number of reasons, be they just supply and demand, wild speculation, or just simple avarice on the oil companies’ part. Some suggestions on how to spend less on oil therefore comes in useful. Saving some here and some there before long adds up.
Having a car that’s fuel-efficient is the plainest way you will be able to save on gasoline, like a sedan, or a hybrid, if you have the means. However, even with gas-guzzlers, there are ways to use less gas, such as driving more slowly and not accelerating fast. The more you depress the gas pedal the more fuel is used, so make a habit of free-wheeling and letting the car’s momentum carry it forward. There are many small ways that can keep gas in your tank for longer.
Be sure use the grade of fuel set for your auto. Premium gasoline, for instance, costs more but will benefit only particular cars, so don’t waste money here if your automobile is not one of them. Removing unnecessary weight from a vehicle and keeping to slower speeds saves a surprising amount of fuel. Virtually all people are not aware that driving too fast brings down fuel efficiency by having more air to push out, of the way, leading to more resistence, raising the drag, and pulling the car backwards. Thus, if you slow down, you will save money and it is much safer also.
Unless you are going someplace and are in need of a roof rack for hauling something, take it out in order to save on fuel. In addition to adding weight to your vehicle, roof racks raise the drag, both pulling down your fuel efficiency. It may not save you a big amount, but there is no reason to lug around surplus weight in your trunk without it being a necessity. Because fuel prices are not likely to decrease much, your only alternatives seem to be are to look for alternative sources, slashing how much you use, or just live with the price increases without doing anything. Almost all people seem to be fine with doing everything the way they always have, pay the higher fuel prices, and possibly complain every now and then.
A lot of people are starting to buy more fuel-efficient vehicles, but that’s about it. Others who can’t afford the other two choices, are the ones most likely to do whatever they can to economize gas. Maybe one of these days, with enough education, everyone will decide that conserving gasoline is a great idea. If every person would simply slow down when driving, the highways would be safer, cleaner, and money would be saved.
